Formatting your soil test report(s)
Your soil test report needs to be uploaded as a .CSV Excel spreadsheet file. If you received your soil test report as a PDF file or in a similar format, enter that data into an Excel spreadsheet and save that as a .CSV file. Your .CSV file should include the following columns: Grower, Field ID, Sample ID, Sample Depth, and Date. Having your data sorted into these columns will help FarmQA easily map your data to your fields
Use the table below as an example of how to format your .CSV file. The example below is for a soil test report for the 'Behind Barn' field under the 'Malmskog Farms' grower. The samples were taken to 6 inches and the test results being reported are nitrogen in lbs/ac, phosphorus in ppm, and potassium in ppm.
Grower | Field ID | Sample ID | Sample Depth | Date | N lb/ac | P ppm | K ppm |
Malmskog Farms | Behind Barn | 1 | 0-6 | 10/15/2024 | 55 | 12 | 115 |
Malmskog Farms | Behind Barn | 2 | 0-6 | 10/15/2024 | 64 | 15 | 160 |
Malmskog Farms | Behind Barn | 3 | 0-6 | 10/15/2024 | 72 | 11 | 125 |

- Before you create your import profile, you'll have to add some soil depths to associate with your soil metrics. Click on the Add
icon next to the SOIL DEPTH header to add a soil depth.
- Give your depth a Name, set a Min depth and Max depth, and click the Save button.
- Now that you've added a soil depth, click on the Add
button next to the IMPORT PROFILE header to create your import profile.
- Either click in the window or drag your formatted .csv file of your formatted soil test report into the window to start making your soil import profile (pictured below).

Using a Soil Import Profile to upload your soil data
Available from the: Web App
User permissions: Enterprise Administrator, Agronomist, Grower
- Click on the Soil
icon, then go to the Samples tab.
- Click on the Upload soil data
button, then use the dropdown menu to select the soil import profile you want to use (pictured below).
-
Use the available dropdown menus to setup the following parameters for your import:
- Select the top enterprise to import into
- Select the growing season to import your data to
- Select the marker type to import your data to (this will default to soil sample)
- Select the sample date to import into
- Either click within the dashed box at the bottom of the window or drag your file within the box to upload your soil data.
- This process can also be done on the individual field level. Uploading soil sample data to your individual fields can help you avoid having to map out a Grower > Farm > Field tree in your import files, and it can be more effective if you're just uploading a few fields worth of data. Click on the Upload soil data button for an individual field in the Soil > Samples page and complete the steps as seen above (pictured below).
