Formatting your soil test report(s)
Your soil test report needs to be uploaded as a .csv Excel spreadsheet file. If you received your soil test report as a PDF file or in a similar format, enter that data into an Excel spreadsheet and save that as a .csv file.
Creating a Soil Import Profile
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app if you aren't already.
- Click on the Soil
tab, then click on the Soil Measurements Import header.
- Click the black Create profile
button next to dropdown menu under the Create or select an import profile header.
- In the Soil Import Profile menu, drop your .csv file in the window. You can also click on the menu and a window will pop up and allow you to browse your files for your soils data.
- Set the following information on the first page of your Soil Import Profile (pictured below):
- Name: the name you want to give to this soil import profile.
- Who produced the file (optional): the soil testing laboratory that was used to generate this report.
- Grower: the column in the spreadsheet that corresponds with the name of the grower or farm your fields are associated with.
- Field: the column in the spreadsheet that corresponds with the name of the field that your samples were taken from.
- Sample ID (optional): the ID of your sample. This could be a letter, number, etc.
- Sample date (optional): the date the sample was taken on.
- Check the Create new geo-markers if we can't find an existing for the sample box to generate pins for your samples. Pins will all be automatically generated in the middle of the field. We are currently actively working on letting users associate soils data with pins in their fields.
- Once you've set this information, click the Next button.
- On the next page, check the boxes next to the soils data you want to want to import (pictured below).
- When you've selected the soil metrics you want to import, click the Next button.
- On the final page, set the following information for each soil profile you want to import (pictured below):
- Soil property: use this dropdown to set the soil chemical property that corresponds with the property you are importing (i.e. NO3 will be set to Nitrogen (N)).
- Unit of measure: use this dropdown to set the unit of measure for each set of soil information you're importing. The unit of measure you set should correspond with units your imported data are reported in.
- Depth: use this dropdown to set the depth to which samples were taken. If you haven't set any depths, click on the Add soil depth button at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
- Metric: associate a desired metric with imported soils data. Click on the Add soil metric button to create a new metric to associate with your data if you haven't already set it up.
- When you've set you values, click the Save button.

- Once your data has been imported, a new row with a summary of that data will appear in the Imported soil sample files table at the bottom of the screen. Click on the Soil samples header to double check your data and make sure that it all looks correct.
- NOTE: If you get an error message that your data was not uploaded, there may be an issue with how you setup your import profile or the level of your enterprise you are trying to import your data to. If this problem persists, please contact FarmQA Support.
