Markers let you mark a spot in a field and come back to it: the same soil sample site, scouting location, or insect trap, season after season. Each marker belongs to a marker type. FarmQA includes preset types for soil sample, scouting, and insect trap locations, and each one has its own icon on the map. You can also create your own marker types.

Place a marker in the field
- In the mobile app, find the field on the Map or Fields tab.
- Select the spot in the field where you want the marker.
- Select Drop pin at location.
- Choose the marker type.
- Enter a Marker name/ID and, if you want, a Marker description.
- Select Save marker.

View markers on mobile
- Sync the app so it has your latest markers: go to Settings and select Sync now.
- On the Map tab, select the field.
- Select the Layers button.
- Check the box next to each marker type you want to see. You can turn on more than one at a time.
On web, turn on marker types under the Markers header in the map pane on the Home tab. Select any marker to see its name and its latitude and longitude.
Delete a marker
- On the Home tab, open the map pane.
- Under the Markers header, turn on the marker type that holds the marker.
- Select the marker on the map.
- Select the Delete (trash can) icon.
Download a marker type
Download every marker in a marker type as a shapefile, for use in other mapping software or to re-import later.
- Select Settings, then the Markers tab.
- Select the marker type.
- Select Download.
The download is a .zip folder with a .shp, .shx, and .dbf file. Keep all three files together in the folder; the shapefile doesn't open without them.

A: Sync both devices: go to Settings and select Sync now.
Q: How do I get soil sample locations into a spreadsheet?
A: Export them from the Soil page with latitude and longitude columns. See View and export your soil data.
