Legends can be edited and customized for any map layer within the FarmQA web app. If you've already created a legend for this map layer in a different program, you can also upload the image to FarmQA to use. Legends can be viewed in the map view with the built in Legend tab. See the instructions below for more details.
Uploading individual legends per layer image

Uploading individual legends per layer image
If a map layer legend exists per field, it can be uploaded within the FarmQA web app. An example of this would be yield maps where each field has a different legend as the yield range is unique. The instructions below walk through the single field upload.
- Login to your FarmQA account from the web app.
- Begin the process of uploading a map layer by locating the field associated with the layer on the map view.
- Click on the field, then under the LAYERS header in the slide out map pane select the map layer you want to edit.
- Click on the Edit icon to enter edit mode (pictured below).
- In the Edit layer image window, access the dropdown menu under the Legend Mode header (pictured below). In this case we will be selecting the Image option, assuming that the file uploaded contains a pre-created legend.
- Legend files can be any image file (.PNG, .JPEG, .BMP, etc.).
- NOTE: if you have previously uploaded legends, you may need to uncheck Use default legend box before seeing the upload options.
- In the example below the uploaded file contains a .PNG file with a legend. If you have multiple images in the file you will be able to pick which image to use as a legend.
- Below is the structure of the file that resulted in the above legend being uploaded. In this case it was a .KMZ file that was uploaded containing a .PNG of a legend.
Setting a default legend
If a single legend exists for an entire map layer type it can be uploaded within the FarmQA web app as a default legend. An example of this would be rainfall maps that all have a scale of 0-30 inches, or zone maps that all have the same number of zones. The instructions below walk through the single legend upload process.
- Login to the FarmQA web app if you aren't already.
- There are two ways to navigate to the default legend upload:
- From the map view, click on a field that is associated with the map layer the legend is associated with, then select Edit default legend at the bottom of the slide out map pane (pictured on the left).
- From Settings, navigate to the Map layers tab, then select Edit default legend below the layer type dropdown menu (pictured on the right).
- In the Edit default style window, open the dropdown menu under the Legend Mode header.
- Select the Image option, then upload the legend using the Upload window.
- Next, click Assign. If at this point multiple images have been uploaded during the process of adding the actual map layer, you will have the option to select from a list of all images that could be used as a legend.
- Click Save when you are done and want to save your changes.
Creating Legends
If a legend does not exist for an uploaded map layer then one can be created within FarmQA Controller. This allows a user to pick a color ramp and set a numeric minimum and maximum range for the legend. See the instructions below for further details.
- Log in to the FarmQA web app if you aren't already.
- Click on the field that has the map layer legend you want to select, then select the map layer as is listed under the LAYERS header in the slide out map pane.
- Click on the Edit icon to enter edit mode (see below).
- Click on the Legend tab in the edit pane.
- NOTE: You may need to uncheck Use default legend to access this option.
- Scroll down to Legend Mode and open the dropdown menu (see below). In this case we will be selecting the Custom option.
- Complete the following:
- Colors: Select a color ramp that matches your map layer style by clicking the drop down.
- Optional: You can invert the color ramp if your map layer runs green to red instead of red to green for example.
- Set the numeric minimum and maximum for your default layer.
- Click Save.
- Colors: Select a color ramp that matches your map layer style by clicking the drop down.
- Clicking Save as default would create this style of legend for all map layers within this map layer category ("zone maps" in this example).
