Field Journals
A field journal collects every event associated with a field — scouting reports, recommendations, application records, planting, harvest, rain, irrigation, and more — in one chronological view. You can access it from the Home tab or the Fields tab, filter and group events to focus on what you need and export a PDF to share with growers or review activity across seasons.
Access the field journal
You can open a field's journal from two places in the web app.
From the Home tab:
- Select the Growing Season you want to review, then select the field on the map.
- In the slide-out pane, select the Events button.
From the Fields tab:
- Select the Fields tab and confirm you're in the correct growing season.
- Find the field — scroll the list or use the Search bar in the upper right.
- In the Events column, select the highlighted number to open the journal.
The journal opens showing events from the current growing season, sorted by date. Events are ordered most recent first.
Note: Recommendations with a checkmark have been completed. Completed recommendations include weather data in the detail view.
Filter and group events
Filter by event type
Use the event type selector at the top of the journal to show only the event types you want. Select from:
- Harvested
- Planted
- Scouting reports
- Recommendations
- Applied (application records)
- Water events
You can select multiple types or clear all to return to the full list.
Group events
Use the Group by control to organize events beyond date order:
- No grouping — shows all events sorted by date (default).
- Group by event — groups events by type (Planted, Scouting report, Recommendation, Applied, Water, Harvested), with item counts shown for each group.
- Group by event with fertility — same as Group by event, with recommendations and application records split into Fertility and Non-fertility sub-sections. Totals appear at the sub-section level where applicable.
Sub-section totals display for applicable groups — for example, nutrient totals within a fertility applications group.
Show expanded details
Select Show expanded details to expand each event card to show product and rate information inline, without opening individual events.
View events across all seasons
To see the full history for a field across every growing season:
- Select the Filter icon in the journal header.
- Check Show all events across seasons.
Use the Select crop dropdown to filter the cross-season view by crop type.
Export a PDF
The PDF export reflects whatever grouping, filters, and toggles you currently have applied in the journal — what you see is what exports.
- Set your grouping, filters, and expanded details preference in the journal view.
- Select Export PDF at the top of the events panel.
- In the export dialog, choose your Water events display preference:
- Individual water events — lists each rain or irrigation event separately.
- Water event totals — shows a summary total of all rain and irrigation for the period, with start and end times.
- Select Export.
The PDF header identifies the grouping mode and active toggles so anyone reading the report can tell which view was exported.
To export only specific event types — for example, all recommendations for a field — filter the journal to just that type before exporting.
Get recommendation totals for your fields
To see a total of each product applied across a season's recommendations:
- Open the field journal from the Home or Fields tab.
- Use the event type selector to show only Recommendations.
- Select Export PDF.
- Scroll to the last page of the downloaded PDF to view the Combined product totals table — a list of every product and the total amount applied to the field per the season's recommendations.
Mobile
The FarmQA mobile app includes the same grouping, sorting, and sub-section totals as the web experience.
To access a field journal in mobile, navigate to the field and select Events. Use the grouping and filter controls at the top of the event list to organize events by type, with fertility and non-fertility separated where applicable. Sub-section totals display within each group.
