Once you've setup metrics to track in your account, you can start to create graphs and other visualizations of your datasets. Check out this article to become more familiar with the Metrics explorer tab and learn how to create metric visualizations.

Navigating the Metrics explorer tab
- When you click on the Metrics explorer tab, the left-hand side of the screen will be populated with a list of the crop and soil metrics that you have setup in the Metrics tab. Your metrics are organized alphabetically under the Category that you have set for each metric. You'll use this menu to create your desired metric visualization(s).
- Any metric visualizations that you have already created and saved can be accessed from the Views tab (shown below).
- In the center of the screen, your current active metric visualization will be displayed. This is the visualization that you're either viewing or editing currently.
- On the right-hand corner of the screen, you can find all the categories you can use to filter the data that is displayed in your metric visualizations by. You can sort your metric data by the following categories:
- Date: set the date range want to collect metric data to visualize.
- Farms and Fields: choose the organization level(s) and field(s) you want metric data aggregated over.
- Crops: select the crop(s) assigned to the fields you want to see your metric visualized for.
NOTE: to create a metric visualization, you MUST have a Date, Farms and Field, and Crop selected.
Creating a metric visualization
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app if you aren't already.
- Click on Analytics then go to the Metrics explorer tab.
- Find and select the Metric you want to create a visualization for in the left-hand side of the screen (pictured below).
- On the left-hand side of the screen, enter in the following information (pictured below):
- Choose the Date range you want to aggregate data over.
- Select the Farms and Fields you want to visualize data for.
- Pick the Crop(s) assigned to the fields you want data aggregated over.
- NOTE: Your metric visualization will not load if you do not input the above information for your metric visualization.
- At the top of the screen, choose the type of metric visualization you want to create by clicking on the graph type dropdown. You can create the following chart types (pictured below):
-
- If the data you are making visualizations for is numeric, you can make the following graphs/charts:
- Line chart
- Heat map
- Field averages map
- Range chart
- Bar chart
- If the data you are making visualizations for is numeric, you can make the following graphs/charts:
-
- If the data you are making visualizations for is from a picklist (i.e. a set of predetermined values), then you can generate the following graph/chart:
- Bar chart
- Line chart
- NOTE: picklist data values will be charted as lines over time and overlayed with picklist colors in the proper value ranges. This can help you better map your qualitative data over time. You can see an example of this below.
- If the data you are making visualizations for is from a picklist (i.e. a set of predetermined values), then you can generate the following graph/chart:
- At the bottom of the screen are three dropdown menus you can use to display and organize your data. There are descriptions of how each dropdown menu will affect your visualization (pictured below):
- X-axis: choose whether to organize your data by date, fields, farms, or crops on the x-axis (pictured below).
- Group by dimension: choose whether you want your data to be organized by field, farm, crop, variety, or master crop. You can only access this option if you have the x-axis organized by Date.
- Annotations: display when recommendations have either been created or completed. You can only access this option if you have the x-axis organized by Date.
- If desired, select the dimensions you want to group your visualization by in the GROUP BY DIMENSIONS section.
- Once you have setup your metric visualization, click the Save icon at the top of the screen. Give your metric visualization a Name, then when you're one click the Save button.
Putting multiple metric visualizations in one graph
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app.
- Click on the Analytics icon, then go to the Metrics explorer tab.
- In the setup a metric visualization like described in this section.
- At the top center of the screen, click the Compare metrics button (pictured below).
- Do the following to setup your new metric visualization:
- Use the Metric dropdown to choose the metric data you want to add to your visualization.
- Use the Graph type dropdown to choose how you want this data graphed. Metric visualizations added to other charts can only be Line, Range, or Bar charts.
- When you're done, press the Close button.
- Your new visualization comparing your two desired metrics will be displayed, and will be able to be Saved or Downloaded like any other metric visualization.
Comparing data from multiple seasons on one graph
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app if you haven't already.
- Click on the Analytics icon, then go to the Metrics explorer tab.
- Use the Metrics view on the left-hand side of the screen to select a metric with multiple seasons worth of data that you want to visualize.
- Once you have selected a metric, use the right-hand side of the screen to input a date range, farm and field(s), and crop(s) assigned to fields that you want to aggregate data over.
- Data over multiple seasons can only be displayed in Line graphs, so make sure that your metric data is being visualized as a Line.
- When you've setup your metric visualization, toggle on the Compare seasons switch at the bottom of the screen (pictured below).
- The grey and purple bars in the Compare seasons graph correspond to changing months during each growing season.
- To omit a growing season's worth of data from your metric visualization, click on the year you want to omit in the legend at the bottom of the graph (pictured below).
Exporting metric graph views
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app.
- Click on the Analytics icon, then go to the Metrics explorer tab.
- Locate the metric graph you want to download by creating it in the Metrics view or by locating it in the Views view.
- Click on the Download icon at the top of the screen (pictured below).
- Your metric graph will download as a .PNG image like the one pictured below.
