Draw a field boundary

Draw a field's boundary on the map to add it to your account, on the web or in the mobile app. You can trace it as a polygon or, for a center-pivot field, as a circle. Fields with more than one piece or with areas cut out — a slough, a yard site — take a few extra steps, covered below.

Draw a field in the web app

1. On the Home map, select Add in the lower-right corner. The Create fields pane opens.
2. Fill in the field details:
   • Organization — the farm or folder the field belongs to.
   • Field name
   • Legal description — optional.
   • Crop/variety — the crop grown on this field this season.
   • Plant date
3. Choose a drawing tool:
   • Add polygon — select each corner of the field, or drag around its edge. Select the first point again to close the shape.
   • Add circle — select the center of the field and drag out to its edge.
4. Zoom in to fine-tune the shape. Drag any point to move it, or drag the small circle between two points to add a new one.
5. Select Save.

Add another piece to the field

Use this when one field is made of separate, disconnected areas. Do these steps before you select Save.

1. Select an empty spot on the map outside the boundary. The drawing tools become available again.
2. Select Add polygon and draw the next piece. Pieces can't overlap.
3. Repeat for each remaining piece, then select Save.

Cut a hole in the field

Use this to leave out an area inside the field. Do these steps before you select Save.

1. Select an empty spot on the map outside the boundary.
2. Select Add polygon and draw the area to remove, inside the field.
3. Repeat for each additional hole, then select Save.

Draw a field in the mobile app

Add is available only when you're online, your account has an active growing season, and at least one crop has a scouting template assigned. See Assigning scouting templates.

1. On the Fields tab, open Map.
2. Select Add, then New field.
3. Move and zoom the map to the field. Select the ? button in the upper-right corner at any time to see which drawing mode you're in and how it works.
4. Select the polygon or circle tool.
5. Tap each corner of the field, or drag your finger around its edge. Tap the first point again to close the shape. To start over, select the close box.
6. To add another piece, select the polygon tool again and draw it. Pieces can't overlap.
7. Select Add field.
8. Enter the Field name and Crop. To add a crop that isn't in the list, see Adding crops to your account.
9. Select Add field. The field appears on the Map tab.
