Getting crops and crop varieties loaded into your account is one of the most important steps in getting your FarmQA enterprise setup. For starters, fields are only viewable on the FarmQA mobile app once you've assigned a crop to it. From there, we unlock the ability to scout and apply recommendations to fields, color fields by crop or variety, and more. Adding a Crop
Available from the: Web App
User permissions: Enterprise Administrator
- Click on the Settings icon on the left-hand side of the screen, then click on the Crops/varieties tab.
- Next click the Add new crop + button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen (pictured below).
- Complete the following steps in the Add a new crop window (pictured below):

- Give your crop a Name.
- Use the Master crop dropdown to choose the master crop that best matches the crop you're adding.
- If this is a perennial crop, toggle on the Perennial switch and use the Perennial start date calendar to pick the date you want this crop to start accumulating GDU's for.
- Choose the Crop color you want to use for this crop.
- Use the Template dropdown to choose a crop template you want to scout fields assigned to this crop with.
- Set a GDU base temperature for this crop for GDU accumulation.
- Input any Notes for this crop as needed.
- If you've signed up for FarmQA's Analytics feature, use the Crop metrics section of this menu to set parameters related to metrics for this crop, namely the Yield unit you'd like to use and Yield goal parameters related to crop metrics.

- Once complete click the Add crop button at the bottom of the screen. You will now see the newly added crop throughout FarmQA.
Adding crop varieties
Available from the: Web App
User permissions: Enterprise Administrator
- Click on the Settings icon on the left-hand side of the screen, then navigate to the Crops/varieties tab.
- Scroll your cursor over the crop you wish to add a variety to. Click on the Add button to add a crop variety (see below).
- Fill out the following information in the Add a new variety window (pictured below):
- Enter a Variety name.
- Add any Notes as needed.
- Toggle on the Use crop color and Use crop template options if you want to use the same crop color and template as the crop this variety is associated with. If you don't want to use those, toggle these switches off and you can set colors and templates for this variety.
- Click the Add variety button at the bottom of the menu to create your crop variety.
Coloring fields by crop variety
Available from the: Web App
User permissions: All Users
- Click on the slide-out map pane in the upper left-hand corner of the Home page, then select the Color by variety option under the FIELD COLOR header.
- Crop varieties will automatically be colored using the same color as their mastercrop. To change the crop variety color, navigate back to the Crops/varieties tab in Settings and select the crop variety you want to edit.
- Click the box in the Color column for the variety who's color you want to edit. Set your desired color, select the check button on the right hand of the row to save your changes (pictured below).
- Now when Color by variety is selected, your fields will display unique colors.
- Note that the map legend will also be updated to show the acreage and field totals per variety with the map toggle.
Viewing varieties in a list view
Available from the: Web App
User Permissions: All Users
- Click on the Fields page, then click on the Group by dropdown in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- In the Group by dropdown, select the Variety option, then your list will be filtered and sorted by your crop varieties (pictured below).
