The first step in bringing in and visualizing metric data in FarmQA Analytics is to create a metric that you want to track. Metric data can be brought in from the following sources:
Scouting reports
Map layers
Weather stations
Satellite imagery
Soil samples

Creating a new metric
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app if you aren't already.
- Click on the Analytics icon, then go to the Metrics tab.
- Click the blue + New Metric button at the top of the screen to start making a new metric (pictured below).
- Select the type of metric data you'll be bringing in: Numeric, Picklist, or Numeric distribution.
- Picklist data is data that is categorized by a list of preset values (i.e. Low, Medium, and High is a picklist set).
- Numeric and Numeric distribution datasets are generated from generic data values (i.e. a scale of 1-10).
- Fill in the following information for your new metric:
- Name: what you want to refer to your metric as.
- Category: the term you'll use to categorize your different metrics (i.e. soils related data should be put in a Soil category).
- Unit of measure: The unit that the data in your dataset are reported in. This can be left blank if desired.
- Sources: use this dropdown menu to select where your metric data will be collected from.
- If you're creating a metric for a numeric question, you'll have to set a Range of values for setting a color scale for your metric visualization.
- You can also set the Colors that will be used to visualize your numeric data. Use the Colors dropdown menu to select from the color scale options shown below. You can also toggle on the Invert switch below the dropdown menu to invert the color pallette you chose.
- When you're done, click the Save icon to save your new metric.
- If you're unhappy with the metric you're creating, you can delete the metric you're working on by clickin the Cancel button at the top of the screen.
