QA Farmer Rain gauge Tab

The Rain gauge tab lets you track rainfall at the locations that matter to your operation — not a regional estimate from a weather app, but a number tied to a specific spot on your land. Each gauge stores a daily record and surfaces the totals you reach for most: today's rainfall, your daily average, and a full history on demand.

You can create as many gauges as you need — one per farm, one per field, or wherever a physical gauge sits. Rainfall data updates once per day and can be corrected manually if your physical gauge disagrees with the recorded value.

Add a rain gauge

When you open QA Farmer, the map is the default view. You can place a gauge directly from there.

1. Tap the location on the map where you want to place the gauge. A pin drops at that point.
2. If you want to move the pin before saving, tap a different spot.
3. Enter a name for the gauge — something that maps to the physical location, like Home Farm or North Quarter.
4. Select Save.

You can also search by address to navigate the map if you're setting up a gauge for a location you're not standing at.

When you save a gauge, QA Farmer automatically backfills daily rainfall for the current calendar year so you have a complete record from day one.

View rainfall data

1. Open the Rain gauge tab to see the list of all your gauges.
2. Select a gauge or search by name to open it.

The gauge shows today's total rainfall and your average rainfall per day. Select Total Rainfall to open the full rainfall history — a chronological list of every recorded daily value back to the start of the current calendar year.

Edit a daily rainfall value

Use this when your physical gauge recorded a different amount than what the system shows, or when the automated value came in as 0 and you want to correct it.

1. Open the gauge's rainfall history.
2. Select the daily entry you want to edit.
3. Enter the corrected value.
4. A confirmation dialog appears showing the current value, your new value, and a warning that the existing value will be replaced. Select Confirm to save.

Your edited value is authoritative for that date — automated daily updates won't overwrite it.

Manage notifications

QA Farmer notifies you when rainfall at a gauge meets or exceeds a threshold. 

Notifications fire once per day after the daily data updates. A gauge that doesn't reach its threshold won't trigger a notification that day.

Each notification names the gauge and the amount recorded — for example: Home Farm received 0.85 in of rain.

To set up or adjust notifications for a gauge, use either path:

• From the list — Select the bell icon on the gauge card.
• From the gauge — Open the gauge, then select Settings.

From either place, you can turn notifications on or off and set the rainfall threshold that triggers an alert.

The change applies to that gauge only.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What happens if the automated data is unavailable for a day?

A: The system defaults to 0 for any day where data isn't available. You can edit that entry manually if your physical gauge recorded a different amount.

Q: Does QA Farmer track snow separately?

A: No. Snow isn't tracked as a separate category. If you want to include snow water equivalent in your rainfall record, you can add it manually by editing the value for that day.

Q: How far back does my history go?

A: When you create a gauge, QA Farmer backfills daily values for the current calendar year. Values before that aren't available.
