The first step to using FarmQA recommendations is to create a set of products that can be used for recommendation writing. Chemical products can be added to your FarmQA account though 1) a product look-up via an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) integration, 2) a spreadsheet import via FarmQA support, or 3) manually adding products. This article will walk you through all three options.
If you are looking for more general instructions on the recommendation writing process, see this article.
Adding Products via the EPA Look-up
Importing products via the EPA Look-up is an easy way to get products added to your account. The detailed instructions can be found below.
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app.
- Click on the Advice icon, then navigate to the Products tab.
- Click on the dropdown arrow next to the + New product button and select the +Import from EPA option (pictured below).
- On the following screen you can search products in the EPA registry by inputting one of the following search terms:
- The product's EPA registry number.
- The product's common name.
- The name of one of the active chemical ingredients in the product.
- After finding the product you want to add, click the Add product icon to the left of the product. You can then repeat the process before importing a group of products in bulk.
- After finding all relevant products you want to add, click the Add products button at the bottom right-hand corner of the window (pictured below).
- The following product information will automatically be input for your imported product(s):
- Type (Adjuvant, Biological, Desiccant, Fertilizer, Fungicide, Herbicide, Insecticide, or Other)
- Name and Registered Name
- Manufacturer
- Registration Number
- Label (added as a link to the label on the EPA site)
- You can manually add in the following product information for the product:
- Target pest or disease
- Rate and units for the rate (i.e. setting the rate of Propiconazole to 3 fl oz/ac)
- Preharvest interval (days)
- Rainfast (hours)
- Re-entry interval (hours)
- Associated crops
- Application method
- Application period
Manually add products in FarmQA
FarmQA also allows you to manually enter in product information. Products manually entered in to FarmQA have the same functionality as those setup with the EPA import, it will just take longer to build up your product database. Steps for manually adding products can be found below.
- Log in to your FarmQA account from the web app if you haven't already.
- Click on the Advice icon, then navigate to the Products tab.
- Click the New product button to access the dropdown menu.
- In the dropdown menu, click the + New product option (pictured below).
- This will populate a blank form to fill out for your product.
- NOTE: only the name section is required
Importing Products to FarmQA
If you have a list of products that you use stored in a Excel spreadsheet or something similar, those products can be added directly from that spreadsheet to your FarmQA Account. Users cannot perform this action currently, but you can email your spreadsheet to support@farmqa.com and have the support team upload it to your account.
The easiest way to format your products for an import from Excel is to use the Product Import Template spreadsheet attached to this page. Each row in the sheet corresponds to a product you wish to import. Each column in the Product Import Template spreadsheet corresponds to a parameter used for your product in the FarmQA system.
Here are some tips for formatting your Excel sheet for product import:
- Each product you import from the Product Import Template spreadsheet must contain a ProductName. All other columns can be left blank if desired.
- If you're confused about what each column title refers to, look up a product already imported into FarmQA. The product parameter names in FarmQA closely correspond with the column names in the Product Import Template spreadsheet. For example, the RateQuantity column in the Excel sheet will be used to fill in the application Rate for the product in FarmQA.
- Use the Values sheet in the Product Import Template spreadsheet as a guide for how to fill in the ProductType, Units, ApplicationMethod, and ApplicationPeriods columns. Columns like ProductType will only read in certain values like Desiccant or Herbicide to match up with values in the FarmQA system.
- You can setup any number of ingredients in the sheet by using the IngredientName, IngredientPct, and IngredientGroup column headers. You'll have to add a number at the of the column header for each ingredient you add. For example, if you're adding three ingredients to your product, you'll need to title your ingredient name columns IngredientName1, IngredientName2, and IngredientName3.
- You can specify multiple crops to apply this product to in the CropNames column by separating the crop names with a | .
Once the spreadsheet is ready, contact the FarmQA Support team and we'll upload it to your account on your behalf.
FEEDBACK: if you would like to import products from a source other than the EPA, please let us know we are always looking for feedback.
